Certificate of Compliance
After any electrical work, you should receive a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) or equivalent. This confirms:
- Work was done by a licensed electrician
- Work complies with Australian Standards
- Work has been tested
State Requirements
- NSW: Certificate of Compliance Electrical Work (CCEW)
- VIC: Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES)
- QLD: Electrical Safety Certificate
- WA: Notice of Completion
Why It Matters
- Proof work was done legally
- Insurance requirements
- Selling documentation
- Warranty claims
What If You Don't Have One
If you had work done without receiving a certificate:
- Contact the electrician and request one
- If unavailable, have another electrician inspect and certify
- Report unlicensed work to your state authority
