Paint Types

Water-Based (Acrylic)

  • Easy cleanup
  • Low odor
  • Quick drying
  • Most common choice

Oil-Based (Enamel)

  • Durable, hard finish
  • Good for trim and high-wear areas
  • Longer drying time
  • Requires mineral turps cleanup

Sheens/Finishes

  • Flat/Matte: Hides imperfections, not washable
  • Low sheen: Slight sheen, somewhat washable
  • Satin: Good balance, washable
  • Semi-gloss: Durable, easy clean, shows flaws
  • Gloss: Highly durable, trim and doors

Where to Use

  • Ceilings: Flat white
  • Living areas: Low sheen or satin
  • Bedrooms: Low sheen
  • Kitchens/bathrooms: Semi-gloss (moisture resistance)
  • Trim/doors: Semi-gloss or gloss

Exterior Paint

  • Use exterior-grade paint
  • UV resistant
  • Flexible to handle expansion
  • Mould resistant
